Time to Rock ‘N Roll down Cloncurry streets

The 65th Annual Curry Merry Muster Festival is set to rock the streets of Cloncurry with this year’s theme being announced.

The famous rodeo festival will celebrate its rich history on the first weekend of August, with this year’s street parade theme being Rock & Roll Rodeo – Put On Your Blue Suede Shoes.

Curry Merry Muster Festival president, Janessa Bidgood, said this year Cloncurry was going back to the 50’s, the years of Rock ‘n’ Roll!

“The Ernest Henry Mining Curry Merry Muster Festival is all about family and community. The street parade is the chance for everyone to get involved and have a little fun,” she said.

“‘Put on your blue suede shoes’ ties in with the sapphire theme for our 65th event.

“We have had all sorts of themes over the years, and this one is going to be a bunch of fun.

“Start planning everyone, you have nearly six months to create an awesome float and enter.”

Vice president and street parade coordinator, Ray Vidler, said he was hoping to see a massive number of floats this year.

“65 floats for the 65th year would be ideal,” he said.

“I really encourage everyone to make the effort and put a float in the parade, it’s a great community event that we want to see continuing for many years.

“Also don’t forget to enter your best dressed vehicles and trucks.”

This year the festival has introduced a new category being the Best Dressed Elvis, this is to tie in with this year’s Rock ‘n Roll theme.

Other street parade categories will include:

  • Most Outstanding Float
  • Best Dressed Premises
  • Best School/ Centre Float
  • Most Outstanding Vehicle
  • Best Presented Prime Mover

The parade procession starts 5.30pm Friday August 2 and ends at the Cloncurry Recreation Grounds, where the winners of each category will be announced and a night of free rodeo action and entertainment kicks off with the Xtreme Bulls.
